The 7th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played from 27th January to 27th February 2022. All the participating teams have announced the list of retained players ahead of the tournament. And now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allowed all the franchises to pick 2 more players in the Supplementary category.

The PCB also released a statement regarding this matter as well. The statement stated that this decision will help provide more opportunities for local players and will help in their growth and development.

The statement added that this decision will also allow teams to have extra players in their squad and this will be useful for them when the situation goes beyond control.

“Although each side can select one foreign player each, the decision opens up opportunities for the local emerging cricketers to experience franchise cricket that will contribute in their grooming and development. Separately, this will also provide extra players to the teams, should they require for reasons beyond their control,” read the statement released by the PCB.

The PSL Player Draft will be held virtually on 7th January 2022

The statement added that the additional players will be picked in a Replacement Draft Session that will be held virtually on 7th January 2022. The Karachi Kings will have a go first, and they will be followed by the Lahore Qalanders.

Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Peshawar will then get a chance to pick the players in the same order. This order was decided based on a random draw. For the second pick, the order of the teams will be reversed.

“The teams will pick additional players in the Replacement Player Draft, which is expected to take place through a virtual session on Jan 7, 2022. Karachi Kings will have the first option to pick the first additional player, followed by Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Peshawar. This order has been decided through a random draw.

Using the reverse order format, the second picks will be as follows: Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings,” concluded the statement.
