Samit Dravid, son of the legendary Rahul Dravid, is fast turning heads with his exploits in junior cricket. The way Dravid junior is piling up runs in age-level cricket, it looks like a big possibility that he is well on his way to follow in the footsteps of his famous father. Samit, who is just 14-year old, has smashed the second double-century in less than two months.

He had scored a fine double ton in December while playing for Vice-President’s XI vs Dharwad Zone in an Under-14 inter-zonal tournament. His 201-run knock came off 256 balls and was studded with 22 boundaries. His latest double century came for Mallya Aditi International School in the BTR Shield Under-14 Group I, Division II.

The young batsman played an innings of 211* runs with the help of 27 boundaries. Riding on Samit’s fine double century, Mallya Aditi International School put on a big total of 386/3. The opposition could only score 254/3 and in turn, Samit’s team won the game by 132 runs.

Rahul Dravid a busy man

While most of the cricketers enjoy their time after retirement, Rahul Dravid has turned out to be a big exception. Instead of taking rest or enjoying his retirement, the former India skipper decided to give it back to the game. Soon after retiring, he took up coaching. Dravid was appointed as the coach of India A and U19 team’s head coach in 2015.

Under him, India U19 made it to the final of the ICC U19 World Cup in 2016. The BCCI extended his stay for another two years and in 2018 and Dravid totally justified the decision. In 2019, he led the U19 team to World Cup glory in 2019. After the end of his contract, Dravid took over as Director (Cricket) of the National Cricket Academy.

Apart from coaching BCCI’s teams, Dravid was also associated with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) as their mentor in 2016 and 2017. He is also being credited for the rise of young batsmen like Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and others. Time and again, the youngsters have credited Dravid for improving their game.
