The fan-favourite franchise Rajasthan Royals is all set to return back to the Indian Premier Leauge in 2018 after being suspended from the tournament for two years alongside IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings. They were always known for the significant influx of talent in the tournament, be it India’s all Ravindra Jadeja or be it the in-form batsman Sanju Samson.

In a first-ever interview with the Indian media post the franchise’s return, Rajasthan Royals’ principal owner Manoj Badale made it clear that they are all set to bring about a few changes. Badale, suggested that there are going to be a lot of changes in the franchise.

The owner stated that the preparations for the return of the franchise are already underway. The owner was then questioned about the reputation of the club following the controversy; he replied that within the cricketing circle the club will always be known for its unearthing of talent that they have done throughout the tournament’s history.

Return of Dravid and Paddy Upton?

Up next, the owner was questioned whether we could see the former coach and support staff in the form of Rahul Dravid and Paddy Upton back in the fray, in conversation with the Sportstar he said, “The return of players is outside of our control, as we will be subject to the rules of the player auction. It is too early to discuss support staff and it would be inappropriate to do so, given that many are currently performing with other franchises.”

Rajasthan Royals have been out of their home city Jaipur for some time now, would the franchise shift out from the city to a city like Pune or Ahmedabad?

What would be the home ground?

Badale said, “We have always made it clear that Jaipur is our home ground, but equally we have had to play almost as many ‘home’ games at other venues. Ahmedabad is a great venue, with a knowledgeable and passionate fan base. Having been out for two years, we are simply keen to play — irrespective of the venue.”

He sees the different venue system more of a positive than a negative as they would be able to build a bigger brand considering the popularity in multiple cities. The return of Rajasthan and Chennai would not only be a grand return for the franchise to the tournament but also the tournament would be more than happy to welcome them back into the fray.
