The fourth day in the eighth round of Ranji Trophy 2019-20 culminated with many teams cruising to the victory. Most teams had registered a victory on Day 3 itself and the remaining teams accomplished the task on Day 4.

Maharashtra grabbed a 67-run victory against Uttarakhand after decimating the latter’s batting line-up in the second innings. Uttarakhand could manage to gather only 202 runs on the board in the second innings as Maharashtra’s bowling trio of Ashay Palkar, Satyajeet Bachhav and Mukesh Choudhary wreaked havoc on the final day. No other batsman apart from Kamal Singh– who scored a gritty half-century at the top– could stay in the middle for a prolonged period.

The encounter between Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu resulted in a draw after both the sides exhibited robust batting heroics. After Tamil Nadu gathered a mammoth total of 424 in their first innings, Saurashtra retaliated and posted 481 runs on the board until the culmination of the match. Stellar centuries from Arpit Vasavada and Chirag Jani propelled Saurashtra to post a massive total on the board. Saurashtra’s Jaydev Unadkat was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant six-wicket haul in the match.

The encounter between Assam and Tripura also resulted in a draw after the former fought back and stuck to the crease on the final day. A resilient 31-run knock from Saahil Jain ensured that Assam don’t suffer a batting collapse on the final day of the match. Riyan Parag also steadied Assam’s ship by staying in the middle and gathering a 43-run knock before his departure. The scoreboard reflected 180/5 at the stumps as Assam successfully managed to get hold of a draw.

Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh also had to settle for a draw after the latter’s batting force fought back on the final day of the encounter. An unbeaten 130-run knock from Aditya Shrivastava saved Madhya Pradesh from collapsing against a formidable Mumbai bowling attack. Shrivastava was also assisted by Venkatesh Iyer’s 59-run knock. Sarfaraz Khan, who has been in sublime form lately with his bat, was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant ton in the first innings.
