The 2020 edition Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just a few hours away and the euphoria is gradually trying to kick in. From fans to pundits to former cricketers, everyone is analyzing the strength, weakness of each of the six franchises and also predicting as to who can win the fifth edition of the franchise-based tournament.

One of the sides that has been tipped as a pre-tournament favourite is the Imad Wasim-led Karachi Kings. The Kings have flattered to deceive in the past editions but in Babar Azam, Alex Hales, Mohammad Amir, Sharjeel Khan, Cameron Delport, Chris Jordan, Aamer Yameen, Usama Mir, the Karachi-based outfit has a good mix of experience and youth and according to former Pakistan Rashid Latif, this might just be the year of Karachi Kings.

Rashid Latif, who was a part of the Karachi King team-management feels that the likes of Sharjeel Khan and Mohammad Amir could turn out to be the X-factors. Latif also feels that Chadwick Walton gives a much better balance to the side as compared to Mohammad Rizwan.

“Sharjeel Khan is an impact player. He has spearheaded Islamabad United’s winning campaign in the past. Mohammad Amir will have an opportunity to help Karachi Kings win the tournament this year as in the past, star-studded Pakistan players haven’t done well for Karachi,” Rashid Latif said on his Youtube show ‘Caught-behind’

He added– “Chadwick Walton balances the team combination as compared to Mohammad Rizwan as a foreign wicket-keeper batsman as it allows them to adjust their four overseas players.”

Karachi Kings’ biggest test will come in the playoffs

Karachi Kings have a plethora of options when it comes to opening the innings and according to him Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan should open the batting followed by Alex Hales at No.3. “Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan will open the innings while Alex Hales could come in at No.3,” Latif added.

Karachi Kings have always faltered at the final hurdle and Latif believes that once again their major test will come in the playoffs stage. The Kings will kickstart their 2020 campaign against former champions Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 21.
