Ravindra Jadeja is probably experiencing one of the best phases of his cricketing career at the moment. The Saurashtra cricketer, for the first time, is truly justifying his all-rounder tag. He was one of the top performers for India on the second day of the ongoing the first Test against the Windies.
The left-arm all-rounder notched up his first international century after almost nine years since he made his debut. He seemed to be extremely pleased with the effort and is quite a confident man now. Also, in the second innings of the game, he picked one wicket and bowled extremely well. However, he was involved in quite a funny run-out incident which infuriated skipper Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin momentarily.
Lucky I hit the stumps
Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the Indian setup. He is the fastest and the definitely the most accurate. But it is this skill of his that caused all kinds of chaos in the middle. Windies batsmen, Sunil Ambris and Shimron Hetmyer were involved in an ugly mix-up with both of them ending up on the same end.
Shimron Hetmyer hit the ball to the mid-on fielder where Jadeja was fielding. Ambris was running to the strikers’ end while his partner didn’t look keen. Hetmyer, after realising that he went to the strikers’ end second turned back and ran towards the other end.
Meanwhile, Jadeja was casually strolling towards the stumps and has possibly not seen the batsmen. With Hetmyer marching back, Virat Kohli and Ashwin were shouting at him as he somehow managed to hit the stumps directly from a not-so-comfortable distance. The trio was involved in an animated discussion after the incident.
During the post-day press conference, Jadeja explained the scenario. “I can’t think what would have happened if I hadn’t hit the stumps, but then I threw it and luckily it hit the stumps,” the laughing Jadeja said.
