Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans on Thursday (May 19). The left-hander was disappointed with an LBW call that went in favour of the bowler after going to the third umpire. Wade was quite sure that the ball had touched some part of his bat before it hit the pads and did not waste any time going upstairs after the on-field umpire raised his finger.

The third umpire wasn’t convinced about a slight inside edge despite the Ultra Edge showing little spikes and stayed with the on-field umpire’s decision of out as the ball went on to hit the stumps after pitching in line with the impact being in line, too. After a good start to the innings, Wade had to perish for a 13-ball 16 which included two fours and a six and he showed his frustration on the pitch after the incident.

Matthew Wade smashed the chairs in the dressing room after the decision

In fact, Wade was spotted smashing the chairs in the dressing room by swinging his bat in anger and it was caught on the television cameras as well. He was subsequently sanctioned for his behavior and the Australian admitted to the level 1 offence as well for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Mr. Wade admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Gujarat posted 168 for 5 in their 20 overs on the back of Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 62 and they went on to lose the game by 8 wickets as RCB managed to chase down the target comfortably. Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant 73 off 54 balls that set up an excellent victory for RCB in the end. With the win, RCB still have got their hopes alive for the playoffs while Gujarat Titans have stamped their position in the playoffs already.
