Recently, the BCCI confirmed the dates for the IPL 2018 auctions. The auctions are set to take place at Bengaluru on January 27 and January 28.

Many might wonder why the BCCI opted for this particular city to host the mega auctions. Recently, a senior BCCI official revealed the reason behind this. He mentioned that the city had hosted all the previous IPL auctions and hence, it qualified as the automatic selection for the IPL 2018 auctions as well.

“Since most of the capped players will be back in the auction, it will be a mega auction that will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. Since Bengaluru has been hosting all previous auctions, that was the choice of franchises,” India Today quoted a senior BCCI official as saying.

Mega event on the cards

Well, in all likelihood, this particular IPL auctions is set to be the biggest affair in the tournament history. Chennai Super Kings and the Royals are back on the roster and hence, the eyes would be on the players they retain ahead of the auctions. Moreover, the likes of Ben Stokes would be in the auction pool yet again.

Interestingly, Ben Stokes was the top buy at the IPL 2017 auctions. The English all-rounder had justified his price big time and had even scored a century in the tournament for the Rising Pune Supergiant. Many fans would also be eager to see how the teams use their Right To Match cards to get back the big names in their teams. A team can retain a maximum of 5 players, which includes three RTM card picks.
