Former Indian all-rounder Reetinder Sodhi has lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s leadership style. Talking about his skipper approach, Sodhi has said that while Sharma will back players who perform, he will also show exit doors to non-performing players.

The former Indian cricketer made his comment in the wake of Men in Blue’s 62-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on February 24. It is to be noted that Ishan Kishan, who didn’t have a great time against West Indies in the limited over series was given another opportunity to open the innings alongside Skipper Sharma in the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

The left-handed batter repaid the faith with a scintillating knock of 89 runs in just 56 balls. Both the openers stitched a partnership of 111 runs with Rohit himself scoring a fluent 44 in the first T20I against visitors.

Rohit Sharma trusts his players and that makes a lot of difference: Sodhi

Speaking on the Khelneeti podcast, Sodhi said, “Rohit trusts his players and that makes a lot of difference. Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant are swashbuckling batters. A lot of times they may not be successful, but on days when they do, they will win you big games. Rohit is treating them very well and giving them that confidence.”

The 41-year old while praising Sharma also said that the best part about Rohit’s captaincy is his clear mindset.

“If you are good, he will back you in front of the media as well. If you are not doing well, he will show you the exit door. You need this perform or perish policy to be successful. Remember, we backed our tried and tested players in the previous World Cup but ended up being found out, ” Sodhi added.

Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma had a good outing against West Indies as the men in blue whitewashed men in maroon in both ODIs and T20Is. The home side won their first match convincingly against Sri Lanka in the first T20I and will look to emulate their performance in the second match of the series to be played on February 26.
