SA vs IND: Umpire Allahudien Palekar traces his roots to Shiv village in Maharashtra

The 2nd Test match between South Africa and India happens to be Allahudien Palekar’s debut as an umpire. Palekar has had a good Test thus far and has made some excellent calls.

Now, the head of Shiv village from Maharashtra, Durvesh Palekar has revealed that Allahudien hails from their village. Durvesh also added that Allahudien’s father then went to South Africa in search of a job and later settled in the land of the Proteas.

Durvesh also added that the village members are proud of what Allahudien has achieved and opined that the name of the village is now known at an international level.

“I am also a Palekar. He traces his roots to our Shiv village. His father then migrated to South Africa for a job and later settled there. Allahudien was born in South Africa, but his original village is Shiv, which is in Khed tehsil. The entire village, the gram panchayat (local governing body) is proud of him, that our name and that of the village has gone on the international level. We are extremely happy,” said Durvesh Palekar as quoted by The Indian Express.

Allahudien Palekar has also officiated in the Ranji Trophy

Also, Allahudien Palekar has carried out umpiring duties in the Ranji Trophy as well, during the 2014-15 season of the tournament, and this was confirmed by a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) umpire.

“He did umpire in that Ranji Trophy game and also stood in another Ranji game in India as part of the umpire exchange programme,” concluded the MCA umpire.

As far as the Test match between South Africa and India is concerned, the Proteas’ scorecard reads _ in their second innings, and the hosts are still _ runs away from victory.
