Watch: Sachin Tendulkar treats a Brett Lee bouncer with delight: Improvisation has been one of the key aspects of the modern cricket, be it for a bowler or a batsman. While the bowlers use slower deliveries and back of the hand balls to create some unorthodox variations to trouble the batsmen, the modern batsmen nowadays utilize the entire ground to score, and not just try to smash the ball all over the park with brute force.

Before the days of AB de Villers, who is possibly the most versatile batsman in modern cricket, there were some who often used unusual methods to acquire some quick runs. And believe me or not, Sachin Tendulkar is also one of them.

Often credited for the creation of the paddle sweep and upper cut, here in this video is another instance wherein Sachin used his brain, rather than brute power or technique. Against a steaming Brett Lee, with whom he shares a friendly rivalry, Sachin improvises a completely new shot which can be termed as late cut. Just a delicate nudge at a bouncer that clocked 140kmph+, with perfect timing and bat position.

And the more interesting part is what followed the shot. While Sachin’s perfect follow-through was good enough for a photo finish, even Brett Lee couldn’t stop himself from smiling at the improvisation from the little master.
