Sachin Tendulkar- the man who is often regarded as the most successful batsman to have played the game, had an interesting question for all his fans on Twitter. The master-blaster on Saturday had sought help on Twitter for finding a waiter whose advice led him to redesign his elbow guard during his playing days.
In an illustrious career, Tendulkar scripted a plethora of records to attain the status of India’s forebearer across all formats of the game. After breaking into the Indian side in 1989, the right-hander stole the limelight by delivering impressive performances over more than two decades. However, the 46-year-old took to Twitter in pursuit of a staffer at Taj Coromandel in Chennai, with whom he had a chat during his playing days.
“A chance encounter can be memorable! I had met a staffer at Taj Coromandel, Chennai during a Test series with whom I had a discussion about my elbow guard, after which I redesigned it. I wonder where he is now & wish to catch up with him. Hey netizens, can you help me find him?” Sachin had written in his tweet along with a video attached to it.

‘Sachin Tendulkar told me that he’ll definitely implement my advice’: S Guruprasad
Tendulkar recalled in the video that the hotel staffer had come to his room in Chennai‘s Taj Coromandel hotel during a Test series to serve coffee. It was at that moment when the staffer had advised him about changing his bat swing whenever he played wearing an elbow guard.
The reach of social media has always been massive and the much-spoken staffer’s whereabouts were finally tracked down. It was S Guruprasad who had given a rare piece of advice to Sachin Tendulkar 19 years ago. Guruprasad shared his once-in-a-lifetime experience of sharing a precious moment with the Indian legend.
“I had a great opportunity to meet him around 19 years ago. I was posted as floor security during my encounter with Sachin. I approached him for an autograph and then asked if I could give a suggestion to improve his game. I pointed out that his elbow guard was restricting the swing of his bat. I play cricket and I was continuously noticing Sachin’s guard,” said Guruprasad while talking with IndiaToday.
“Teams like Australia were accurate about their line and length while bowling to Sachin. They used to target middle and off length where wrist plays a vital role in playing any shot. I had noticed about Sachin’s elbow guard quite a few times and I finally had the opportunity to meet him accidentally. It was at that point when I shared my piece of advice with Sachin.”
“The interaction lasted only for a minute or so but Sachin told me that he definitely will implement my advice. I noticed in the next match itself that he had modified his guard,” he added.
I came to know about Sachin’s tweet in the evening when I was sitting with my friends. My friends urged me to reply to Sachin and I hope to get in touch with him soon. I want Sachin to visit my place for dinner if I finally get the chance to meet the master-blaster again,” he concluded.
