Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is termed one of the best captains in India and around the world. He was the only captain to have led an IPL team in all the 9 seasons. But it all changed when the Rising Pune Supergiants his new IPL team announced the decision to replace him with Steve Smith as the captain. A couple of days after that Dhoni has been named the skipper of the Jharkhand team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

This will be the first time that the man who led Team India in 331 international matches will captain his domestic side. He hardly played any cricket for Jharkhand after being picked in the Indian team. Dhoni had last year played a few games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy but since he was to rejoin the Indian team pacer Varun Aaron was the captain for the tournament.

It is an important occasion for Dhoni who will want to be at his best with the bat in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2017 in England. Team India aren’t scheduled to play any limited-overs fixtures until then and he will rely on the domestic exposure to fine tune his game for the mega event.

Jharkhand Cricket Association Secretary (JSCA) Debashish Chakraborty today announced the team for the 2016-17 season of the one-day trophy. The state team will play all their matches in Kolkata from February 25 to March 6.

The squad also has the likes of Ishan Kishan who recently featured in the India A team, Ishank Jaggi who made a lot of news for himself with smashing performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zone tournament which also earned him an IPL contract with the Gujarat Lions at his base price of 10 lakh. Another prominent name is big hitting batsman Saurabh Tiwary who was signed by the Mumbai Indians for 30 lakh which was also the base price he had set for himself.

Among bowlers left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem will continue to be a key for the team having been the man in form in the ongoing domestic season. Fit again Varun Aaron will bolster their pace bowling attack in the tournament. He was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2017 and the Kings XI Punjab added him in their arsenal having paid a hefty 2.8 crores to sign him.
