Cricket in Perth is mostly renowned for the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) stadium. The pitch there is known for its pace and bounce where most visiting cricket teams struggle to find their feet. The turf is rightfully deemed to be the fastest in the world. However, there’s one more stadium that’s set to be launched in Perth on December 13.

Australia will play a One-Day International series against England after the 5-match Ashes series. The Optus stadium is set to host one game in the series on the 28th of January. However, Perch Scorchers will play the first game against England’s second XI in a night T20 game on December 13. A crowd of 10,000 is expected for the game with an entry fee of $5.

A spokesperson for Sports Minister Mick Murray said that the announcement of the launch is most likely to be made this week. “Negotiations are continuing and we are hopeful of a positive result, Murray quoted. Christina Matthews also commented on the status of the deal and launch of the new ground at Perth. “We are negotiating a three-way agreement between VenuesLive, CA and us. There are a couple of outstanding issues but we will have a better idea next week of the confirmation of the ODI.” she said

Matthews also remarked that the Optus Stadium will also host the Final of the Big Bash League (BBL) if the ODI is hosted on January 28. “There is no doubt that if the ODI gets the go-ahead, BBL finals will be played there as well, if the Scorchers qualify,” he added.

An audience of 55,000 is expected to be present at the Optus Stadium during the ODI clash between the arch-rivals. The stadium is set to add another feather in the hat of an illustrious history of cricket in Western Australia.
