The U19 World Cup 2018 saw many players capture the headlines and catching the eyes of the national selectors. Players like Mujeeb Zadran, Prithvi Shaw and Shaheen Afridi were few of the exciting prospects heading into the junior World Cup. It is a place where the talent and metal of the young guns is tested to determine as the base for the ones who are fit to represent their country at the highest level.
Speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi, grabbed the headlines after his dominating bowling spell crushed the Multan Sultans and achieved first win for Lahore Qalandars at the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). Pakistan legend, Shahid Afridi has praised the youngster in the past for his seam bowling abilities and he did not shy away this time around either as he heaped praises for the youngster’s dominant performance.
Breathtaking spell
Shaheen Afridi picked up five wickets while conceding only four runs against Multan. The lanky fast bowler is deemed as a “champion in the making” by the former Pakistan skipper.
Shabash Shaheen Shah Afridi… Champion in the making, finally some smiles for @lahoreqalandars fans, really happy for them

Lahore Qalandars skipper Brendon McCullum was also mighty pleased with the young man for his fiery spell. He tweeted “Great to finally get a win for our @lahoreqalandars last night. Energy, intensity and execution of our plans. Shaheen Shah Afridi was outstanding!”

The 17-year-old bowled a spell that was a treat to watch. He is the youngest player to take five wickets in a PSL match. Out of the 22 balls that he bowled, 18 of them were dots. His spell included an over where he took three wickets without conceding a single run.
This clearly shows that Shaheen Afridi is someone to watch out for and if he continues his top form, a national call-up might not be too far away. However, the pacer must not get carried away and maintain his feet so as to ensure that his game is constantly improving.
