Shaniera Akram, wife of Wasim Akram, delivers an empowering speech

Wife of former Pakistan great and coach of Kolkata Knight Riders Wasim Akram, delivered an empowering speech for women during her session at the Jinnah University for the celebration of 70 years if Pakistan’s independence in Karachi last night. The 33-year old Australian born desired the women in the country to chose a career according to their endeavours, breaking the stereotypes.

51-year-old Wasim Akram has been active in social media off-late as he posted pictures of him spending quality time with family during a vacation in Bali. Akram is a father of two sons, Tahmoor and Akbar and daughter Ayla. Shaniera Thompson and Waz tied the knot in 2013 after his former wife died of multiple organ failures.

“The only road to women empowerment is to encourage women to believe in themselves. When you truly believe in yourself, right down deep in your heart, you can do anything,” claimed Shaniera Akram according to Mid-day. she later stressed on believing in oneself, irrespective of the choice of career one makes. She further claimed that it is a good time to be a woman in Pakistan.

“No matter what you want to do in life, whether it’s building cities, curing disease or being a wife and a mother, you need to believe in yourself and be the best person you can be, whatever road you choose, make it count. It’s a great time to be a woman in Pakistan,” added the better half of the fast bowler with over 500 wickets in ODIs.

“We have access to a wider variety of information, better technology, increasing opportunities and much greater respect than ever before. Women now hold the key to their future, it’s what we choose to do with it that will make all the difference,” concluded Shaneira.
