Team India’s trainer Shankar Basu has decided to step down from the trainer’s post of the national team. Following India’s historic 4-0 series victory against England in Chennai, Basu has informed the team management that he will no longer be a part of the Indian squad. He has cited personal reasons for the announcement of his decision.

Though The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for a possible replacement after his resignation but hasn’t found one yet as his resignation hasn’t reached them yet. Whether the team management will go for a new trainer for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against England remains to be seen. The BCCI will decide on this prospect only after receiving Basu’s letter.

It is reported in the media that Basu has suffered serious setbacks in his business back in Chennai and wants to give more time to his endeavour. “He has told us that he wants to be relieved from India duties because of personal reasons. We don’t know the details,” a member of the Indian team was quoted by Mumbai Mirror. Basu who is the owner of a fitness centre in Chennai by the name of Primal Patterns Holistic Fitness Studio has some high profile clients.

Team India has been in a prolific form off late especially in the longest format of the game and their players have looked fitter than any other world class teams. Though India dropped a few catches during the recently concluded Test series against England, their ground fielding has been exceptional. The recent level of fitness among the Team India players especially Test captain Virat Kohli is thought to be due to the holistic training methods of Basu.

By winning the fifth and the final Test against England in Chennai, India remained the only unbeaten side in Tests during the course of this years. Meanwhile, Indian spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin bagged the ICC Cricketer of the Year and also the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards today.
