Popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma recently made an appearance in the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018. Kapil was seen hosting an event titled ‘Zalmi nights with Kapil’. While the event was a big hit for the players and the tournament, the comedian now has found himself in troubled waters.

Indian political parties are visibly unhappy with the participation of Kapil Sharma at the event. Shiv Sena, the party that has always been against Pakistan’s involvement with Indian sports, slammed Kapil for compromising India’s honor. They slammed him for running after money.

“Kapil Sharma is making a mockery of India’s honour. He just wants to earn money and doesn’t care about the country. We strongly condemn Sharma for performing during PSL,” Shiv Sena quoted in India.com.

MNS slam Kapil Sharma

Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also slammed Kapil Sharma for performing at the PSL 2018. They remarked that the comedian should be ashamed of himself. They went on to say that they have lost all the respect they had for Kapil.

“He (Kapil) should be ashamed of himself. Pakistani cricketers are banned in IPL but he went there to perform. I used to be his fan but after this episode won’t watch any of his show and also urge people to do the same,” MNS spokesperson Amay Khopkar quoted.

Cross-border relations

Interestingly, the entire episode has come at a time when the Indian Union Minister Babul Supriyo had banned the Pakistani artists from performing in India. He had also asked the makers of a Bollywood movie ‘Welcome to New York’ to scrap a song sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

“Our soldiers are being brutally killed and their bodies are mutilated… If we can stop Pakistani players playing in IPL…. At a time when we have cornered Pakistan, even US is one step away from declaring Pakistan a terrorist nation… maybe it would have been nice if Bollywood showed solidarity and took a stand,” Babul Supriyo had quoted.
