With Mohammad Amir announcing a shock retirement from international cricket, former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has offered to help him. Amir sent shockwaves through the cricket fraternity on Thursday by sensationally announcing his retirement from international cricket. He conveyed his decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Amir alleged of being mentally tortured and also slammed the current team management. The media release from the PCB revealed that the 28-year-old informed the board Chief Executive Wasim Khan that “he has no desires or intentions of playing international cricket and as such, he should not be considered for future international matches.”

His decision came just a day after he ended an impressive campaign in the Lanka Premier League where he picked up 11 wickets including a five-wicket haul. Mohammad Amir has ended his international career after representing Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. Overall, he picked up a total of 259 international wickets. His last appearance for Pakistan came in the T20I series against England in August earlier this year.

Shoaib Akhtar’s proposal for Mohammad Amir:

With Pakistan’s cricket fraternity taken aback by Mohammad Amir’s shocking announcement, Shoaib Akhtar has offered to coach the left-arm pacer. On Thursday, Akhtar took to Twitter to state that he could make Mohammad Amir do wonders on the field if he coaches the pacer. The former pacer also urged the PCB not to waste the pacer’s talent as he tweeted:

“Give @iamamirofficial under me and then see the wonders he does on the ground. Na zaaya kerain us ko (which roughly translates to ‘Don’t waste him’).”

Mohammad Amir’s latest decision has ended a very intriguing career in international cricket which started with a bang but did not take long to take an unexpected turn. The left-arm pacer made his debut for Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup as a teenager. He did not take long to prove his talent before the spot-fixing scandal hit him.

He was banned for five years and it looked all over for him. But fortunately for Mohammad Amir, PCB handed him another chance as he made a sensational comeback in 2016. In the following year, he played a key role in Pakistan’s unexpected triumph at the Champions Trophy. Amir was also Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker at the 2019 World Cup.
