Ahead of the World Test Championship finale and ODI World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a new deal with sports brand Adidas as the new kit sponsor of the Indian team.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the same on Twitter and welcomed one of the world’s leading sports brands on board. Even though the details of the new deal are yet to be released, a long-term deal is expected.

“I'm pleased to announce @BCCI's partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world's leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas,” Jay Shah tweeted on Monday morning.

Notably, BCCI’s deal with Killer Jeans will end at the end of May and following which, the partnership with Adidas will come into effect. Prior to Killer Jeans, MPL Sports was associated with the Indian team for a long period of time before they transferred the rights to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limit in December last year.

On the other hand, a few reports also claim that Indian team’s main sponsor Byju’s are willing to terminate their current deal with the Indian team and thus, BCCI are looking for other options. Notably, the contract with the edu-tech giants will end in November 2023.

Meanwhile, the Indian team will most probably be seen wearing Adidas kits in the upcoming WTC final against Australia, which is slated to begin on June 7. The global company is also expected to create a new shirt for the Indian team for the white-ball formats but it needs to be seen whether it happens before the ODI World Cup or right after the WTC final in England.
