India triumphed over Australia in a nail-biting encounter at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on Friday, 23rd September. The hosts leveled the series by the virtue of this win. Axar Patel and skipper Rohit Sharma shone for the Indians in the must-win second T20I, which was reduced to eight overs per side due to the wet outfield. The win sets up an epic series finale in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The Indian openers launched a scathing attack against the Australian bowlers in their pursuit as Josh Hazlewood's first over of the second innings yielded 20 runs. Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were only dealing in sixes before the latter was dismissed by Adam Zampa in the third over after a solid start to the Indian chase.

Rahul's dismissal did not deter the Indian skipper, who was looking in ominous touch in the match. India were cruising in the chase, but the match took an interesting twist after Zampa dismissed Virat Kohli, who looked in good knick, and Suryakumar Yadav on consecutive deliveries in the fifth over.

Australia pulled things back nicely after Zampa's delightful spell in the middle with the Indian batters struggling to find the middle of the bat on a sticky surface. But with the series on the line, Rohit Sharma along with an ice-cool Dinesh Karthik sealed the win with four deliveries to spare.

Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma called it right at the toss and put in the visitors to bat on a pitch that had something on offer to the faster bowlers. With the match shortened to just eight overs for each side, the batters had the full license, and the Aussies obliged as Aaron Finch came out all guns blazing.

But the Indian team hit back instantly after Cameron Green, last match's protagonist for Australia, was run out after some exquisite fielding from the exuberant Virat Kohli. Axar Patel, who was India's most successful bowler in the match, dismissed the ever-threatening Glenn Maxwell for a first-ball duck to hand India the advantage after the two overs of powerplay.

Tim David also succumbed to the left arm spinner as his skipper Aaron Finch continued on his merry way before he was castled by a blistering yorker by the returning Jasprit Bumrah. The hosts looked like restricting the Aussies for a non-threatening total, but Matthew Wade threw a spanner in India's aspirations.

The southpaw played another blazing cameo of unbeaten 43 runs off just 20 deliveries, dragging the Australian total to a respectable 90 runs at the end of eight overs. Axar Patel was the star of the show with his imperious bowling figures of 2/13 in his two overs.
