Courtesy of a scintillating 186-run knock by flamboyant batter Virat Kohli, team India lead by 88 runs against Australia by the end of Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test in Ahmedabad. After resuming from 289/3, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja stitched up a 50-run partnership at the first session.

However, the visitors got the scalp of Jadeja after the star all-rounder played a mistimed shot to Usman Khawaja at mid-on. While Shreyas Iyer was expected to join Kohli at the crease, in came Srikar Bharat. Later, it was learnt that Iyer complained of pain in his lower back on Day 3 and was taken for scans to determine the extent of the discomfort.

Meanwhile, Kohli continued to play a fine knock and helped India minimise the deficit. Bharat, on the other hand, played quite a few explosive shots to get 44 off 88. Meanwhile, Kohli eventually notched up his 28th Test hundred in 241 balls, which was his 75th overall Notably, Kohli ended his century drought in Test cricket, having last scored one in November 2019.

Eventually, pace spearhead Mitchell Starc got Axar's scalp, who departed for 79 off 113 balls. By then, India had already taken a lead. However, it took just a few more overs for the Kangaroos to dismiss India post drinks as they concluded their innings for 571 runs, with a lead of 91 runs.

Kohli scored 186 off 364 balls before getting dismissed by spin sensation Todd Murphy. Meanwhile, Lyon and Murphy got three wickets each. Interestingly, Matthew Kuhnemann opened with Travis Head in the second innings as the duo concluded the day’s play trailing behind 88 runs.
