Match 11 of IPL 2024 saw the Lucknow Super Giants take on the Punjab Kings at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, which was hosting its first game of this season's IPL. To everyone's surprise, it was Nicholas Pooran and not KL Rahul leading the home team, with the latter being named as the Impact Player for LSG.

The New Delhi-based Mayank Yadav was handed his debut cap for LSG, with bottom-placed LSG hoping to get two points on the board, electing to bat first.

It was a tale of contrasting fortunes for the LSG openers, with KL Rahul scoring just 15 off nine deliveries, and Quinton de Kock piling up around 3.5 times Rahul's tally, with him bringing up his 21st half-century in the cash-rich league.

After the untimely dismissal of Marcus Stoinis after Rahul Chahar cleaned him up a delivery after Stoinis thumped the leggie for a couple of back-to-back maximums, Pooran played a fine knock, which really propelled his team's cause, an innings played at a brisk pace with a strike rate of 200, encompassing three fours and as many sixes. He was well and truly on his way to a fifty but dragged a widish delivery off Rabada's bowling, leaving him absolutely disgusted with himself.

Krunal Pandya's form with the bat came out to be quite the refreshment for LSG, whose quickfire 43 off 22 thrust LSG to an above-par score of 199/8. Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers for PBKS, with him making a strong comeback with the ball returning with figures of 3/28 in his four overs, after taking a beating in PBKS' opening couple of games. Almost everyone was left scratching their heads considering the fact that Harpreet Brar was given only a couple of overs, with him going for next to nothing in those.

After the superb and prompt start provided by openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, who put on 102 for the opening wicket, with Dhawan being the aggressor, ending up with 70 off 50, the highest scorer in the match.

With Liam Livingstone getting injured while chasing a delivery to the fence from deep square-leg, he didn't feature in his usual No. 4 position, with Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma getting outsmarted by 21-year-old Yadav, who bowled his heart out on debut, clocking the fifth-fastest delivery in his spell, at 155.8 kph, who eventually secured the Player of the Match award, with one and all impressed by his raw pace and zip off the surface.

There was an incredible collapse which ensued post the dismissal of the openers, with there being no over in which ten or more runs were scored from the 14th to the 19th over, with Yadav and Mohsin Khan bowling exceedingly well, with Mohsin's wickets coming off successive deliveries to dismiss the PBKS and Curran to put PBKS on the backfoot, from where they never really recovered.

A late onslaught off Naveen-ul-Haq in the final over, who along with left-arm orthodox debutant Manimaran Siddharth, were the only bowlers who were expensive for their franchise, was a bit too late as LSG saw off PBKS by 21 runs to move five positions up from their initial position to fifth place.
