Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) posted a formidable total of 231 for the loss of six wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Match 65 of the IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. RCB skipper Jitesh Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. The decision did not work in their favour as the opposition batters went all guns blazing right from the word 'go'.
SRH got off to a flying start with the help from opener Abhishek Sharma, who smashed 34 runs off just 17 deliveries during the powerplay. He alongside Travis Head added 54 runs in just 25 balls for the first wicket. However, both batters were dismissed in quick succession, which gave RCB a time to pull things back.
Heinrich Klaasen contributed a quick 24 off 13 balls, while Aniket Verma added 26 off just nine. The highlight of the innings was Ishan Kishan’s sensational unbeaten knock of 98 off 48 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and five sixes. For RCB, Romario Shepherd was the decent performer with the ball by claiming two wickets for just 14 runs in his two overs.
RCB have already secured their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs and currently sit second on the points table with 17 points. A win in this match would take them to the top of the table. On the other hand, SRH have been eliminated from the tournament and are placed eighth with just four wins. The Pat Cummins-led side will be aiming to finish their campaign on a high note with a win at Ekana.
"I think when we (Head and himself) played the first over, we thought we got one of the best pitches this year. Somewhere, we have to look out for our small mistakes. We need to take responsibility and take it till the end. Head and I we were looking forward to scoring a total of 230-240 only," Abhishek Sharma said between innings.
"We had a plan and we were going to go after it (throughout the innings). The score is good. I think it was pending from his (Kishan's) side. He was talking about this. This score is because of Kishan only, the way he played was tremendous. Let's see what Pat Cummins thinks today (whether Abhishek is required to bowl)," he added.
