Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has come forward and issued a clarification after a fake tweet attributed to him regarding Virat Kohli's no-ball controversy started doing the rounds on social media hours after the blockbuster T20 World Cup Super 12 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the MCG on Sunday, October 23.

Hussain came forward and called out the netizen responsible for this act, and asked the person to delete the tweet immediately. The veteran batter openly said that it was indeed fake news as well as a fake quote which the edge-of-the-seat thriller between India and Pakistan never deserved in the first place.

It's a fake news and a fake quote: Nasser Hussain

It so happened that a fan posted an image of Nasser Hussain on Twitter with a message that read, “The umpires made some weird decision in favour of India today. Maybe we should keep quiet and not upset ICC and BCCI.”

The image went viral on social media in no time and when it came to the notice of Hussain, he had no hesitation in confronting the fan online. Hussain wrote, "Probably best if you can delete this please .. it’s fake news and a fake quote and definitely not what a great game of cricket like today’s deserves !! Thanks."

The no-ball saga happened on the fourth delivery of the nail-biting final over when Mohammad Nawaz bowled a full-toss which was dispatched into the stands by Virat. After hitting the ball, the batting megastar urged the umpire to signal a waist-height no-ball and after a brief deliberation on-field umpire Rod Tucker signaled a no ball much to the dismay of the Pakistan team and the fans.

Nawaz completely lost the plot from thereon as he bowled two wides and conceded the advantage to India. In the end, Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs as India came out on top by four wickets in the final-over thriller.
