Pakistan's marathon T20I series against England ended in defeat as the visitors secured a comprehensive victory in the seventh and final T20I to clinch the series 4-3. While the underwhelming Pakistani fielding in the series decider received widespread criticism, skipper Babar Azam's bemusing statement in the post-match presser sparked a meme fest on social media.

England's 12-day helter-skelter T20 tour of the subcontinent ended with a memorable victory in front of a packed crowd in Lahore. The visitors were trailing 3-2 after five games but turned things around with back-to-back thrashings of the home side. A defeat by 67 runs did not please the fans as the Pakistani fielders once again showed signs of vulnerability in the field.

The displeasure of Pakistani fans wasn't unwarranted as the home side were favorites heading into the series against a relatively new look English side. But Babar Azam was the subject of trolling by the Netizens after his bemusing comments when asked about the defeat.

He said, "ye khubsurti hai cricket ki, kabhi aap jeet te hain kabhi aap harte hain" ('This is the beauty of cricket; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.").

Babar Azam's comments after the damaging loss in the series decider irked Pakistani fans

The Pakistani cricket fans took to Twitter and compared their skipper's remarks to that of their head coach Saqlain Mushtaq. Saqlain was the subject of a meme fest after his inexplicable comments in the aftermath of his team’s defeat in the 3rd T20I earlier in the recently concluded series. The Pakistani head coach had commented that winning and losing is “kudrat ka nizam” (the law of nature).

A series defeat against a new-look England side has raised further questions about Pakistan's readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. While the bowlers played their part in the prolonged series, apart from Babar and Mohammad Rizwan, none of the batters managed to leave a mark for the home side. The middle order has left a lot to be desired for the Asian outfit, who will hope to turn things around before the blockbuster T20 World Cup clash against eternal-rivals India on October 23.

Pakistani fans were in no mood to entertain their skipper's comments and expressed their feelings via Twitter
