Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel gave a blunt response on social media to a user for taking a shot at Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla. Notably, veteran spinner Piyush claimed three wickets in MI’s first win in the IPL 2023 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, April 11.

In the first innings, Delhi were unable to target the 34-year-old leg-spinner as he returned magnificent bowling figures of 3/22 in his four overs at an impressive economy of 5.50. On that note, one Twitter user took to the micro-blogging site and made a rather distasteful remark on Piyush, adding that David Warner and Co. could not target the ‘leggie’, who doesn’t even play for his state team.

Furious with the remark, former keeper-batter Parthiv Patel was swift in responding to the user and stated that the ‘leggie’ is a ‘two-time’ World Cup winner.

Delhi Capitals ? No. It's Delhi Capitulates. Too many cricketing brains sitting in the dug out but in the middle their batsmen were clueless against a leggie who doesn't even plays for his state.

“Delhi Capitals? No. It’s Delhi Capitulates. Too many cricketing brains sitting in the dug out but in the middle their batsmen were clueless against a leggie who doesn’t even plays for his state,” said the Twitter user.

“That leggie is a 2 time World Cup winner with 161 IPL wickets his name is PIYUSH CHAWLA…and he does play for GUJARAT as a professional player,” responded Parthiv.

Notably, the Uttar Pradesh-born spinner plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket now and scalped one wicket in his most recent outing for the side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Hyderabad. Piyush was also a part of the Indian team that won both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

He was acquired by the five-time winners at his base price of INR 50 Lakh at the mini-auction in December 2022. The veteran spinner and Mumbai Indians will next be seen in action against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 16. Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to build on their recent success and add two more points at home against a high-flying KKR team.
