India haven’t had the best of times thus far in the five-match Test series against England. Virat Kohli and his men lost both the Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively and subsequently went 2-0 down in the series. The third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham is currently underway and the visiting team has a daunting task ahead of them to try and resurrect their campaign.

In the meantime, the viewership of sports audience across all channels has gone down by a significant margin. The poor display of cricket by Virat Kohli’s men has turned out to be detrimental for the presenters. The Broadcast Audience Research Control recently released the ratings of week 32 from Saturday, August 4 to Friday, August 10 as per reports in Inside Sport.

Sony takes a hit

The same included the last day’s play of the first Test and the second day of the previous Test at the Home of Cricket when India collapsed for 107 runs owing to James Anderson’s five-wicket-haul. It has resulted in a decline in viewership of the sports genre. Sony Ten 3 has garnered 61,771,000 gross impressions as compared to 129,430,000 in the previous week.

However, it was the top watched channel of the week. The gross impressions of Sony Six, one of the broadcasters of the ongoing Test series, has reduced from 91,967,000 to 40,917,000. Sony Ten 1 and Star Sports First are placed second and third with 60,133,000 and 50,547,000 impressions respectively. Star Sports 1 Hindi didn’t see much of a decline and are in the fifth position.

Nevertheless, the final day’s play in Birmingham was the most-watched sports genre programme, both on Sony Six and Sony Ten 3, and topped the charts with 33,04,000 and 18,80,000 impressions. On that day, India were chasing 194 runs to win the first match, but they eventually couldn’t. It will now be interesting to see the numbers from the 33rd week.
