All the statistical highlights from England’s victory in the Johannesburg ODI against South Africa:

Yet another defeat for South Africa in a Pink ODI:

5-2 – South Africa ended up on the losing side for the second consecutive time in a Pink Jersey ODI. They lost to Pakistan by 5 wickets in the last year’s match. Prior to these two defeats, South Africa won all the five ODIs where they wore Pink Jersey.

England’s unbeaten streak of ODI series:

12 – England has not lost any of their last 12 bilateral ODI series of more than one match. Their last ODI series defeat in a multigame ODI series came against India at the start of 2017 where they lost to India by 1-2 margin.

Since that series defeat, England featured in a total of 16 ODI series/tournaments out of which they failed to win only two – One-off ODI against Scotland in 2018 and Champions Trophy in 2017. The 5-match ODI series against West Indies in 2019 (2-2) and this series against South Africa (1-1) are the ones which ended in a draw.

An ODI win for England in South Africa after a while:

5 – The 3-wicket win in Johannesburg put an end to England’s 5-match streak without an ODI win on South Africa soil. They lost the last three ODIs of the 5-match series on the previous tour and failed to win the first two match of the current ODI series.

New record for Roy-Bairstow pair:

21 – Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow pair has shared 21 fifty-plus stands in ODI cricket; the most 50+ stand for an England pair in this format. They went past the 20 partnerships of 50+ runs by Eoin Morgan and Joe Root pair.

A quick-fire knock by Jonny Bairstow:

186.95 – Jonny Bairstow’s batting strike of 186.95 during his 23-ball 43 is the 2nd highest strike rate in an innings during SA-ENG ODI matches. Eoin Morgan had a SR of 197.05 during his 34-ball 67 during the 2009 Centurion ODI.

Quinton de Kock @ 9000 runs:

9046 – Runs Quinton de Kock has scored in International cricket thus far. He is now only the 11th player to amass 9000 runs in International cricket for South Africa. De Kock has played 203 Internationals for Proteas scoring 20 hundreds and 50 half-centuries including the 69 on Sunday.

England’s spin strategy:

27 – Number of overs of spin used by England in the 3rd ODI; the 2nd most number of overs bowled by spinners in an ODI innings in Johannesburg. Sri Lanka spinners bowled as many as 37 overs in the 1998 ODI against the hosts. The 27 overs by England spinners are also the most by any team in an ODI on South Africa soil since the start of 2014.
