Sri Lanka continued to take a thrashing from the Indian team as the home side was restricted to just 238/8 in their quota of 50 overs in the 2nd ODI game of the series at Pallekele. This was the first time India failed to bowl out the opposition on this tour. The Indian chase which was supposed to start at 6:45 PM local time has been held back as it started to rain after the conclusion of the Sri Lankan inning.

Virat Kohli won his sixth toss in a row on the tour and invited the hosts to bat first again. The Lankans were under pressure after Niroshan Dickwella’s dismissal as they slowed the scoring down in the process to build partnerships but eventually failed to get something substantial. Milinda Siriwardana and Chamara Kapugedara put on a crucial 6th wicket partnership after the hosts were reduced to 121/5. The pair put on 91 off 99 balls to take their side to a respectable total.

Siriwardana scored run-a-ball 58 while Kapugedera scored 40 in his 100th ODI game. Jasprit Bumrah was the star with the ball recording figures of 10-2-43-4. He bagged the wickets of the top three scorers Siriwardana, Kapugedera and Dickwella.

Overs from the Indian innings will be deducted from 7:55 PM local time as there is a chance for the game to be extended by an hour. The cut-off time for the game is 9:55 PM local time, by when the Indian innings should at least be into the 20th overs for a result to be possible.

This Sri Lanka v India ODI series has a reserve day for all the games and if no play is possible today, Indian chase will resume on Friday with full fifty overs. In the case India gets a revised target with the required 20 overs not completing today, their chase will resume with the same scenario tomorrow.
