2017 Cricket Stats: The Indian captain Virat Kohli bossed the 50-overs format in 2017 with as many as six centuries in 26 matches. He played every game for the team apart from the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. Naturally, he is also the player with most runs in ODIs by a distance as the other players failed to match his standards. However, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the other two Indians in the top 10 list of highest run-getters in this year.

Virat Kohli has nonchalantly owned the format with the bat and has amassed 1460 runs at a staggering average of 76.84 and a strike rate of almost 100. Apart from 6 tons, he has also smashed seven half-centuries and ruled over the bowlers who came his way. The stand-in skipper for the Sri Lanka series Rohit is the second in this list with 1293 runs to his name in 21 innings at an average of 71.83 and strike rate better than Kohli. He has also scored six centuries and matched his skipper which includes his recent third double century against Sri Lanka.

The former skipper of Sri Lanka Upul Tharanga is third on the list despite the team’s poor run. His form at the top has been excellent as he has scored 1011 runs with the second lowest average amongst the top 10. But he has shown amazing consistency by smashing 6 half-centuries and two centuries. The Gabbar of the Men in Blue, Dhawan, is fifth on the charts with 960 runs from 22 innings in the middle with a mediocre average of 48 compared to others and the best strike rate of 101.37.

England Test skipper Joe Root is the third and the last player averaging more than 70 with the bat scoring seven scores in excess of 50 and a couple of tons. Quinton de Kock has been the highest run-getter for South Africa this year and is sixth in this list with 960 runs in 19 matches. His opening partner Hashim Amla is 10th with 862 runs in 18 innings and has gone past the three-figure mark thrice. Faf du Plessis, Ross Taylor and Babar Azam are the other talented batsmen who have won matches for their side scoring tons of runs this year.

Surprisingly, two of the ‘fab four’ of this generation, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson, does not feature in this list and have endured a mediocre year with the bat. Also, the batsmen from Bangladesh and Windies didn’t have a great year compared to the other players this year.
