While the Sri Lankans failed to defeat the Indian team in a single game on this tour so far, the other thing they failed to do was dismiss MS Dhoni during the ODI series. The India wicketkeeper-batsman walked out to bat four times in the series, aggregated 162 runs and remained unbeaten each time. Only eight players have aggregated more than Dhoni in an ODI series/tournament without getting out even once.

The former Indian captain walked out to bat for the first time in the series in the 2nd ODI after Akila Dananjaya threw India into troubles with his career best 6-wicket haul. Dhoni battled out with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and took the team home scoring an unbeaten 45. The situation was similar when he took the field in the 3rd ODI with Rohit Sharma on the other end this time.

The pair put on an unbeaten 157-run stand out of which Dhoni scored 67. In the next game, the 36-year-old walked out in a much better scenario as the team was batting first and were well set for a huge total. His unbeaten 49 helped India reach 375 and Dhoni broke the record of most number of not outs in ODI cricket. Earlier in the 2nd ODI, he had equalled the record for most not outs in International cricket.

When it looked like the Indian team would win the 5th ODI without needing Dhoni’s contribution, Kedar Jadhav got out as they were two runs away from the whitewash. MSD took a single to give Virat Kohli the strike and remain not out yet again.

A total of 13 instances have been recorded in ODI cricket so far where a player scored 150 and more runs in an ODI series/tournament without being dismissed. MS Dhoni is the only player to record two instances among those as the first wicketkeeper with 100 stumpings in ODIs scored 212 runs in the home ODI series against England in 2011 across four innings without getting giving away his wicket. Dhoni got a chance to bat in four of the five matches in that series.
