Andre Russell wreaked havoc against Saint Lucia Kings bowlers and slammed the fastest fifty of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) history. Standing in the first game of Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL 2021, Russell went after the bowlers from the outset and smashed fours and sixes at will. He eventually advanced to 14-ball fifty, the fastest for any batter in CPL history. Russell surpassed JP Duminy in the list, who brought up a 50 off 15 balls in CPL 2019.

Speaking of the proceedings of the game, Jamaica Tallawahs won the toss and elected to bat first at the Warner Park in Basseterre. The decision proved to be brilliant as the likes of Kennar Lewis, Chadwick Walton, and Haider Ali scored in excess of 40. Russell came to bat at number five with the scorecard reading 199-3 in 17.1 overs.

The stage was set for the dasher and he didn’t disappoint. He attacked bowlers from the word go and none of the King’s bowlers looked effective. From Keemo Paul to Wahab Riaz, the swashbuckler showed mercy to none. His mayhem comprised three boundaries and six massive sixes as the two-time champions posted a massive total on the board.

Speaking of the batters with the fastest CPL fifties, JP Duminy is second on this list, scoring a 15-ball half-century against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2019. The list is followed by Evin Lewis as the southpaw scored fifty off 17 balls against Jamaica Tallawahs in 2019. Sohail Tanvir and Kieron Pollard have scored 18-ball fifties in CPL. Have a look at the entire leader board.

Meanwhile, Saint Lucia Kings, runners up of the last season, need an exceptional effort to put some spice in this contest. However, they made a terrible start to the chase with the top order crumbling under pressure. Big guns like Rahkeem Cornwall, Faf du Plessis, and Andre Fletcher couldn’t do much as the Kings lost six wickets inside the powerplay overs.

Needless to mention, their defeat looks like a mere formality and it would be interesting to see if the lower order can add any spice in this contest. Meanwhile, Migael Pretorius has been the wrecker-in-chief for Tallawahs in the bowling department, having taken three wickets.
