Coming off a loss against India, England Women put on a tremendous batting display against Pakistan, who invited the hosts to bat first in the 5th match of the Women’s World Cup. They posted a huge total of 377/7 in the 50 overs thanks to the centuries from Natalie Sciver and captain Heather Knight.
Kainat Imtiaz struck early removing both the openers but Knight and Sciver counter-attacked the Pakistan bowlers and scored their runs at some pace. Captain Knight brought up her hundred in 105 balls and was dismissed on 106 after putting on a record 213-run stand for the 3rd wicket. Sciver was more destructive during her innings as she needed just 76 balls for her century; the 2nd fastest by an England Woman in ODI format. Sciver departed after scoring 137 off just 92 balls with 14 fours and 4 sixes.
Danielle Wyatt and Fran Wilson played useful cameos towards the end to power England Women to a total of 377/7 which is now their highest in Women’s World Cup. They overhauled their previous highest total of 376/2 scored way back in 1997 also against Pakistan. In fact, this is only the 2nd highest total in Women’s World Cup history behind Australia 412/3 in 1997 against Denmark. This was the 2nd highest total for England Women in ODIs and the 5th highest overall for any team. England scored 378/5 last year against Pakistan.
Pakistan have been on the receiving end of the highest totals in ODIs and World Cup in Women’s cricket as three of the top 4 totals in WWC and five of the top 6 ODI totals have been recorded against them.
