Mahendra Singh Dhoni is widely known for his love of finishing innings and matches with a six without taking any sort of pressure. MS Dhoni repeated the feat as he finished off the recently concluded Asia Cup T20 final against the hosts Bangladesh in his signature style by smashing a six.
It was the 3rd time where Dhoni has finished off a successful run chase in T20Is with a six. Across all the formats in international cricket, this was the 13th instance where Dhoni finished off a successful run chase with a six. 9 off those 13 instances came in ODI cricket, while the another one came in Test Cricket.
Coming to finishing off team’s innings with a six while batting first, MS Dhoni has done it 4 times a piece in ODIs and T20Is. Even in Test Cricket, Dhoni finished Indian innings with a six on 2 occasions where India declared soon after Dhoni reached his milestones on those instances.
When compared to others in finishing off with sixes, MSD is far from everyone in T20I format. Since the time of ball by ball data has been maintained, MS Dhoni is way ahead of any other player in finishing off successful run chases with a six and also in finishing off team’s innings with a six while batting first in ODI format.
The first ever instance of MS Dhoni finishing off with a six was during an ODI game against West Indies at Dambulla during a chase in Jermaine Lawson’s bowling in July 2005. In overall, 23 instances have been recorded where MS Dhoni finished off team’s innings with a six.
Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain was the only bowler against whom MS Dhoni recorded more than one instance of finishing off team’s innings with a six. Interestingly both the instances came during the recently concluded Asia Cup T20. Dhoni hit a six on the last ball of 20th over while batting first in league game and sealed the chase with a six in final.
