Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has started his Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign on high. On the first day of the 50-over tournament, Ishan Kishan smashed an explosive century scoring 173 runs off only 94 balls against Madhya Pradesh. He hit 19 fours and 11 sixes during his magnificent knock.
Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh won the toss and invited the Jharkhand team to bat first. Jharkhand lost their first wicket in the form of opener Utkarsh Singh for a score of only 10 runs. Captain Ishan Kishan who came to open the innings looked aggressive in his approach from the very first over.
Ishan reached his fifty in 40 balls and scored a ton in only 74 balls. He crossed the 150-run mark in 86 balls and finally fell for 173 runs in 94 balls. His last 71 runs came in only 20 balls. He was well on his way to score a double hundred but was dismissed by Gaurav Yadav in the 28th over of the innings.
The Jharkhand team posted a gigantic total of 422/9 in 50 overs. Apart from Ishan Kishan in their innings, Virat Singh, Anukul Roy, and Sumit Kumar scored half-centuries.

1 – With this century, Ishan Kishan registered the highest score by a keeper-captain among Indians in List A matches and reached the third spot overall in this record. Morne van Wyk who hit 175 runs off 171 runs as a keeper-captain for Dolphins in 2014 holds this record currently.
2- Ishan Kishan also registered the second-highest score by a wicketkeeper in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Sanju Samson who played an unbeaten knock of 212 runs off 129 balls against Goa in 2019 is at the top of this list.
11 – Among the players scoring the most sixes (11) in an innings in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ishan Kishan has now reached the joint-second spot along with Vishnu Vinod. Yashasvi Jaiswal who hit a double century against Jharkhand in 2019, is at the top position with 12 sixes.
422/9 – Jharkhand’s score (422/9) is the highest ever total in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh had put up a total of 412/6 against Railways in 2010.
2 – Jharkhand’s total is the second-highest score by any team in a List A match played in India. South Africa scored 438/4 against India in Mumbai ODI in 2015.
