Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal on Wednesday recorded the highest individual score in List A cricket by a keeper batsman. He is also the country’s third batsman to score a double hundred in a List A match with a blistering 200 for WAPDA against HBL at Niaz Stadium of Hyderabad. He is the third Pakistani after Mohammad Ali and Khalid Latif to score a double century in a List A match.

In the process of that special knock, he smashed four sixes and stroked 27 fours to score 200 off 148 deliveries to help his team chase a target of 315 in the 46th over with 7 wickets remaining. The out-of-favour player reached the magical figure of 200 in 147 deliveries before being stumped on the next delivery by wicketkeeper Jamal Anwar off Zohaib’s delivery.

The sensational knock helped Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) chase a stiff target against of 314 Habib Bank Limited (HBL), smoothly. WAPDA rode on the double ton from Akmal along with the help from skipper Salman Butt.

Together, they stitched a 139-run opening wicket stand. With his double ton off 147, Akmal is also jointly the 11th quickest to do so along with Sachin Tendulkar. The feat of achieving the highest individual score in List A cricket by a wicket-keeper batsman should help Kamran Akmal build his case against Pakistan’s selectors.

Following his record of the highest individual score in List A cricket by a wicketkeeper-batsman is MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka at Jaipur back in the 2005-06 season. Henry Nicholls of New Zealand scored 178 for his team Canterbury against Wellington at Wellington in the 2014-15 season.

Fourth on the list is one of the most recent ones from Proteas’ keeper batsman Quinton de Kock who scored 178 for South Africa against Australia at Centurion, in the 2016-17 season. Next on the list is another South African, Morne van Wyk who scored an unbeaten 175 for his team, Dolphins, against Knights at Bloemfontein in the 2014-15 season. Sam Billings’ 175 for the England Lions against Pakistan A at Canterbury in 2016 is sixth on the list.
