Stuart Broad is expected to undergo a scan on his heel which caused him discomfort during the recently concluded Lord’s Test against the Windies. The assessment has already begun with the Ashes around the corner as Broad is going to be a frontline bowler in their Urn defence along with his counterpart James Anderson.

He has constantly had problems with the fat pad in his heel since the Indian tour in 2012. Recently, he had to miss out on the pink ball round of County Championship matches preceding the home season. This enabled him to be completely available for the series against South Africa and West Indies.

2nd highest wicket-taker

While the recent season hasn’t been a great one for Broad, he has managed to make it memorable as he surpassed Ian Botham’s tally of 383 wickets to become England’s second highest wicket-taker. The first name on the list is that of his new ball partner Jimmy Anderson who recently claimed his 500th Test wicket and also climbed up to the top spot in the ICC rankings.

With just 20 wickets in 14 innings this year, Broad would be looking forward to making amends by delivering his splendid best as the most important series down under commences. He has always been a valuable asset when it comes to the Ashes. With 84 wickets at a stupendous bowling average of 27.69, Broad has been a potential threat for the Aussies.

He is nearing the 100-wicket milestone in the Ashes and there’s no doubt he will reach there in the upcoming series. However, the prime focus would be in helping England retain the Ashes. Their last tour to Australia was a disastrous one with the drubbing and surrounding controversies. England would be looking forward to creating new memories down under in their conquest to retain the Ashes after having won it at home in 2015.
