After being without a head for almost a month the cricket governing body in India Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally has a new chief. Supreme Court of India today (January 30) hearing the BCCI v Lodha committee case appointed former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Vinod Rai as the head of the BCCI. It also appointed three administrators in Ramachandra Guha, Diana Edulji, and Vikram Limaye to help Rai in governing the board.

The BCCI was facing a fix as to who will represent them in the upcoming meetings of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since it is the president who leads the charge. And so the Supreme Court appointed Amitabh Chaudhary and Limaye as representatives for the purpose.

Originally the SC was to deliver a decision earlier but Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi who was representing the Union government of India in front of the court requested the bench to hold the orders back since the central government was pondering over the idea of introducing a sports code.

Initially, the court had asked amicus curiae, Gopal Subramaniam and Anil Divan to suggest names of the administrators which was submitted in a sealed envelope but they weren’t pleased with the suggestions since it included people aged above 70 years which by eligibility fails as per the Lodha panel’s recommendations the SC is trying to implement. The bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra then told the BCCI to files its suggestions for administrators and for representation in the ICC meetings as well by January 27.
