The Supreme Court on Thursday has countermanded the criminal complaint which was lodged against former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni over his professed description on Lord Vishnu on a magazine cover. The Supreme Court also dismissed the allegation against the editor of the magazine who posted the picture.

“It would be a travesty of justice if the cricketer is prosecuted as he did not do it with malicious intentions, the SC was quoted as saying by Quint.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Anantapur district vice president Yerranguntla Shyamsunder had earlier alleged Dhoni that the former captain had hurt the religion of Hindus by dressing up by Lord Vishnu for a magazine. Many criminal cases were lodged against Dhoni across the country for the picture posted on the cover of Business Today Magazine on 3rd June 2013. The editor of magazine Chaitanya Kalbag was also summoned under Section 295 A of IPC.

Dhoni stepped down from the national captaincy pretty decently before the limited overs series against England handing over the reign to Virat Kohli. Dhoni remains India’s most successful captain across all 3 formats and it was definitely a bill call from Dhoni to step down after captaining India in as many as 199 ODI’s.

He smashed a sensational century in the 2nd ODI against England and alongside Yuvraj Singh, the duo rolled back the days and made us relive some of our childhood memories. Just before the IPL, he was removed from the captaincy of Rising Pune Supergiant by RPS chief owner Sanjiv Goenka. They appointed Steve Smith as the captain but Dhoni continued to be a part of the team solely as a player.

Despite Dhoni being not in the best of touch in the IPL, it won’t be right to judge his performance on the basis of an IPL performance. He looked in good touch during the limited overs series against England and it must be a matter f time before he gets his rhythm back in the ongoing IPL.
