The team England recently unveiled their new outfits for the upcoming seasons in all the three formats of the game. The newly appointed Test skipper Joe Root was present at the launch of the new sporting gear for the English side. While the Test cricket gear has gone back to the age old whites, the shorter formats see a funky change coming their way. The 2017 Test whites for England will have the traditional cable-knit cream jumpers.

Root wore the classical long-sleeve jumper at the launch of the new gears sponsored by the American firm New Balance. Limited overs skipper Eoin Morgan and the Women’s team captain Heather Knight also made their presence felt by sporting the limited overs jerseys. Joe Root looked absolutely pleased with the classical Test whites. He noted that the feel of the new jumper whites brings back memories of historic moments of English cricket.

He further added that the woolen jumper is reminding him of his first sweater knitted by his grandmother. A very satisfied Root felt like a ‘kid’ again after sporting the new Test jumper.

“The guys in 2005 who won the Ashes wore the old cable knit jumper and there are some great iconic moments in English cricket that are associated with clothes like this so hopefully there will be many more in the future. It feels like I’m a kid again, playing my first couple of games,” quoted Joe Root.

“It’s like my first woolen jumper my grandma knitted me so it takes it all back to the beginning and it’s a nice way to remind yourself that even though there are times when we’re under a lot of pressure it’s a game we enjoy playing. We have to embrace the occasion, go out and enjoy it,” he added further.

While the Test outfit has gone the traditional way, the limited-overs outfit seems to be heading in the gen-next mode. The T20I jersey is a red and blue thick striped jersey with dark blue lowers. The ODI jersey looks much better compared to the T20I jersey. A decent dark blue jersey that fades and merged into light flesh tint shade as it goes downwards sums up the look of the ODI jersey.

The new sporting gear is sponsored by New Balance. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has signed a 5 year deal with them for £2m annually. New Balance is already sponsoring two of England’s popular cricketers Joe Root and Ben Stokes.
