Sri Lankan cricket has tended to strain over the last few years and hasn’t tasted much success. However, amidst their tumultuous times, the team has also produced quite a few young talents, Kusal Mendis is one of them. He hasn’t played a whole of matches, but in a short span, he has managed to impress with his classical and fearless display of cricket.
The 23-year old batsman has played 44 ODIs in which he has managed 1239 runs at an average of 30.97. He made his ODI debut back in 2016 versus Ireland. In the same year, he scored 94 runs from 73 balls which helped his team to victory versus the Windies. His maiden century came against Bangladesh in Dambulla last year. This year hasn’t been fruitful though with scores of 0,19,36 and 28.

Afghanistan stepped in among the big boys of cricket a decade ago and their meteoric rise has left the followers awestruck. Mohammad Shahzad has been one of the main architects of their glorious run. He made his ODI debut in the same year when the cricket team made their first appearance in ODIs. The swashbuckling batsman isn’t the fittest cricketers going around, but his fandom can’t be doubted.
He is second on the list of their highest run-getter with 2239 runs from 69 matches at an average of 33.92. He has four tons in the 50-over format, which is the most by an Afghan batsman. Shahzad has also whacked the most number of fours (263) by their batsmen. With 547 points, he is the 56th ranked batsman in ICC’s rankings and also the highest-ranked Afghan batsman.

ODI cricket has traveled a long way ever since the first match in 1971 was played between Australia and England. The number of overs was pruned down from 60 to 50. The entertainment quotient has also been taken care of bearing in mind the commercial aspects that are attached to the sport. Kohli is presently the top-ranked batsman in ODIs and rightly so, for the supremacy he has had over the bowlers. With 35 centuries in 208 matches and an average of 58.10, he has turned out to be a headache for the oppositions. He hasn&#8217;t yet entered the 30s, yet his parallels have been drawn with all-time greats. The <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Indian</a> batsman has thrived under diverse playing conditions, which has been his hallmark.
He has been dismissed cheaply on a few instances, but he hardly has allowed them to drag him into a slump. Finch is arguably the best batsman Australia currently have in ODIs. After <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/shane-watson-disappointed-steve-smith-david-warner-promote-overseas-leagues/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Warner&#8217;s</a> one-year suspension, he is also their most seasoned batter. The Victorian is known for his attacking style of play and has 3361 runs in 93 matches with 11 centuries under his belt. In the current Australian lineup, which doesn&#8217;t boast of much experience, Finch&#8217;s role is all the more important.
In the Yellow Army&#8217;s erstwhile ODI series, where they were clean swept, Finch didn&#8217;t have much to cheer about, however, his century at the Chester-Le-Street reinforced the reasons why he is among the most reliable batsmen in the lineup. With 706 rating points, the 31-year old is presently the 15th ranked batsman in the ICC Rankings, with Warner being the top Aussie in the list.

Amla doesn&#8217;t possess the flamboyance as that of the other batsmen, but he does his job, scoring runs, with sheer precision. He bats at the top of the order and has carved a reputation for being a vital cog of South Africa lineup. He has amassed 7535 runs in ODIs at an average of 50, which aren&#8217;t poor numbers by any stretch of the imaginations. His strike-rate is up there at 88.90.
With 746 rating points, he is 12th in ICC&#8217;s list of best batsmen. He didn&#8217;t have an overwhelming series versus India, but his overall shows for the Proteas have been good enough to stay put in his position. In the country&#8217;s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, Amla&#8217;s role would be that much more crucial as the conditions in the sub-continent demands sound technique on the part of batsmen, which Amla possesses.

<h3>4. Jonny Bairstow (England)</h3>

Bairstow has recently turned out to be one of England&#8217;s most consistent batsmen in the ODI format. His current form has been no less than stupendous as he became the nation&#8217;s first batsman to notch four ODI centuries on the trot. The Yorkshire-born cricketer, in a short career of 48 ODIs, has already cemented his position for the Brits&#8217; further endeavors, at least in the 50-over format.
With 1856 runs at an average of 51.55, Bairstow has been a tough nut to crack and on decks, which has peanuts to offer for the bowlers, he unfolds mayhem in the opposition camp. His strike-rate is right up there at 104 and in England&#8217;s upcoming ODI series versus India, the onus will be on the right-handed batsman to pile on the runs. He is the 11th ranked batsman in ICC&#8217;s list of best batsman.

<h3>5. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)</h3>

Williamson is among the most versatile cricketers, New Zealand ever has had. He is a batsman for all conditions, something which was evident from the way he plied his trade in the IPL. He doesn&#8217;t boast of an intimidating stature, but he ensures that he stands up in the hour of need. He has notched 5156 runs in 127 ODIs at an average of 46.87, pretty decent numbers for a top-order batter.
The Tauranga-born cricketer has 11 tons to his name along with 33 half-centuries and has shown tremendous consistency in his career. He is presently ranked number 9 in ICC&#8217;s best batsman with 778 points. He is also the skipper of the team and the Black Caps will be looking up to him in the ICC Cricket World Cup next year in England and Wales, which is 11 months away from now.

<h3>6. Babar Azam (Pakistan)</h3>

Babar Azam forayed into international cricket back in 2015 and hasn&#8217;t looked back ever since. He has undoubtedly been Pakistan&#8217;s most reliable batsman in ODIs with 1789 runs in 41 matches at a jaw-dropping average of 51.11. Moreover, he also has seven centuries and as many fifties in the 50-over format. He is currently the second-ranked batsman in ICC&#8217;s latest rankings.
Last year he emerged as the fastest batsman to notch seven centuries in 33 innings, surpassing Hashim Amla&#8217;s 41 innings. In the same year, he also became the first batsman to score five consecutive hundreds in the country when he achieved the feat in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He will next take part in the Men in Green&#8217;s T20I series followed by five ODI series versus <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/zimbabwe-announces-new-t20i-skipper-tri-series/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zimbabwe</a>.

Evin Lewis has been one of the most explosive batsmen in world cricket. Chris Gayle is at the twilight of his career and Lewis has to shoulder a chunk of responsibility of the batting order. He opens the batting and hasn&#8217;t disappointed one bit. In 32 ODIs, the left-hander has racked 968 runs in 32 matches at an average of 34.57 with two centuries and three half-centuries.
Last year versus England, the Trinidadian pummeled the English bowlers with a knock of 176 runs, which also happens to be his highest score in ODIs at The Oval. The 26-year old was also a part of the national team in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in March. His will next play in the Windies three-match ODI series against Bangladesh provided he gets selected.

<h3>8. Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh)</h3>

Tamim Iqbal is the leading run scorer for Bangladesh in ODIs with 6018 runs in 179 matches at an average of 34.98. He made his debut in 2007 and announced himself in that year&#8217;s World Cup with a swashbuckling fifty versus India at the Port of Spain, a knock which invariably helped his team to the next round. He hasn&#8217;t looked back ever since and kept piling on the runs.
The Chittagong-born batsman also has nine tons and 41 fifties in his kitty. His highest score of 154 came against Zimbabwe, the same match where Charles Coventry equaled Saeed&#8217;s Anwar&#8217;s highest individual score of 194. Tamim&#8217;s upcoming assignment will be his team&#8217;s overseas  ODI series versus the Windies, which gets underway from the third week of July.
