A hat-trick happens when a bowler dismisses three batsmen in as many deliveries in a row. This is not a usual sight in cricket and we rarely see bowlers being able to achieve this feat. Pakistan has always been a country proud of its bowlers, the first ever hat-trick to be taken in ODI cricket was by Jala-ud-Din of Pakistan against Australia in 1982. By this he encrypted his name in the record books of cricket in golden letters becoming the first bowler to do so in the history. His three wickets in three balls phenomenon was repeated by compatriot Wasim Akram next in the year 1989 against West Indies. It took Wasim only a few months to take his second hat-trick and as he dismissed three Aussie batsmen MG Hughes, CG Rackemann and TM Alderman. The third was taken by Aaquib Javed vs. India this was followed by one from Waqar Younis a couple more from Saqlain Mushtaq and the 8th hat-trick by a Pakistani bowler was scalped by Mohammad Shami against West Indies in the year 2002.

It took almost 19 years from the first ever hat-trick in ODI cricket for a Sri Lankan bowler to make it. Chaminda Vaas happens to be the first ever bowler from the Island country to record it. The game was against Bangladesh at Colombo 200 Vaas repeated it in 2003 against Bangladesh. Then came a one of his kind bowler into the Sri Lankan team Lasith Malinga, since early days in his career the sling arm bowler, with his pace and swing has been tough to handle for opponents. In 2007 against South Africa at Guyana Malinga took 4 wickets in 4 balls making a new record with it. The Kenyan and Australian batsmen fell prey to Malinga’s efficient bowling and he took two hat-tricks in 2011. Perera got three Pakistan batsmen caught off his bowling in 2012 to make it the 7th hat-trick by a Sri Lankan bowler in ODI cricket.

BA Reid in 1986 became the first Australian and second bowler in international cricket to pick up a hat-trick. Reid got there by claiming three wickets against New Zealand at Sydney. AM Stuart was the second Australian bowler to realize three wicket taking balls in a row up against Pakistan at Melbourne in 1997 he got rid of Ijaz Ahmed, Mohammad Wasim and Moin Khan all of them were out caught. Brett Lee against Kenya in the 2003 World Cup took his first and third for the country. DT Christian and CJ McKay are the latest in the list and thus completing the 5th hat-trick by Australians in ODI cricket. James Faulkner is the latest entrant and 6th Aussie to achieve this feat against Sri Lanka in 2016.

Till date four Bangladeshi bowlers have successfully completed their hat-tricks in ODI cricket. Taijul Islam is the latest and the first bowler in history of cricket to pick up a hat-trick on debut. The spinner dismissed T Chatara bowled, J Nyumbu LBW and T Panyangara clean bowled in the Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe contest at Dhaka on the 1st of December 2014. Earlier Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak had done so against Zimbabwe for their respective hat-tricks. Rubel Hussain took his when Bangladesh were playing New Zealand at home in late 2013. Till date 4 Bangladeshi bowlers have been able to do so in One Day international cricket.

England the inventors, creators and developers of the game of cricket, were bettered by almost all major cricket playing nations in all the aspects of the game even in taking hat-tricks no English bowler could claim his three wickets until James Anderson did so in front of Pakistan at the Oval in 2003. This was soon followed and replicated by teammate Steve Harmison against India at Nottingham in September 2004. The third  England bowler to have taken a hat-trick was by Andrew Flintoff against the West Indies at St Lucia in 2009 where he got rid of Ramdin, Rampaul and Benn of consecutive deliveries. And the fourth was by Steve Finn against Australia in the first match of ICC World Cup 2015

South African bowlers have taken 3 hat-tricks in ODIs. Charl Langeveldt was the first South African bowler to do so, against the West Indies at Barbados in the year 2005. By taking wickets of (I Bradshaw bowled, D Powell bowled and C Collymore leg before wicket). The second South African bowler was JP Duminy who took his hat-trick against Sri Lanka in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015; his victims were (AD Mathews caught; KMDN Kulasekara caught; PHT Kaushal lbw). And the third South African bowler to take a hat-trick is Kagiso Rabada, who took his hat-trick against Bangladesh on his debut on 10th July 2015. There is a tie between India, West Indies and Zimbabwe as there as twice in the history of ODI cricket bowlers form the countries have taken hat-tricks. Chetan Sharma was the third bowler in ODI cricket to take a hat-trick and the first Indian which he did against New Zealand at Nagpur in 1987. Kapil Dev former Indian World Cup winning skipper and all-rounder was the second and last Indian bowler to have registered one for himself when he took three for against Sri Lanka at Calcutta (now Kolkata). The paciest bowlers of West Indies modern era Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach have secured one hat-trick each to make the count two for the Caribbean.

DT Christian and CJ McKay are the latest in the list and thus completing the 5th hat-trick by Australians in ODI cricket. James Faulkner is the latest entrant and 6th Aussie to achieve this feat against Sri Lanka in 2016.</p>

<p>Till date four Bangladeshi bowlers have successfully completed their hat-tricks in ODI cricket. Taijul Islam is the latest and the first bowler in history of cricket to pick up a hat-trick on debut. The spinner dismissed T Chatara bowled, J Nyumbu LBW and T Panyangara clean bowled in the Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe contest at Dhaka on the 1st of December 2014. Earlier Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak had done so against Zimbabwe for their respective hat-tricks. Rubel Hussain took his when Bangladesh were playing New Zealand at home in late 2013. Till date 4 Bangladeshi bowlers have been able to do so in One Day international cricket.</p>

<p>England the inventors, creators and developers of the game of cricket, were bettered by almost all major cricket playing nations in all the aspects of the game even in taking hat-tricks no English bowler could claim his three wickets until James Anderson did so in front of Pakistan at the Oval in 2003. This was soon followed and replicated by teammate Steve Harmison against India at Nottingham in September 2004. The third  England bowler to have taken a hat-trick was by Andrew Flintoff against the West Indies at St Lucia in 2009 where he got rid of Ramdin, Rampaul and Benn of consecutive deliveries. And the fourth was by Steve Finn against Australia in the first match of ICC World Cup 2015</p>

<p>South African bowlers have taken 3 hat-tricks in ODIs. Charl Langeveldt was the first South African bowler to do so, against the West Indies at Barbados in the year 2005. By taking wickets of (I Bradshaw bowled, D Powell bowled and C Collymore leg before wicket). The second South African bowler was JP Duminy who took his hat-trick against Sri Lanka in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015; his victims were (AD Mathews caught; KMDN Kulasekara caught; PHT Kaushal lbw). And the third South African bowler to take a hat-trick is Kagiso Rabada, who took his hat-trick against Bangladesh on his debut on 10th July 2015. <p>There is a tie between India, West Indies and Zimbabwe as there as twice in the history of ODI cricket bowlers form the countries have taken hat-tricks. Chetan Sharma was the third bowler in ODI cricket to take a hat-trick and the first Indian which he did against New Zealand at Nagpur in 1987. Kapil Dev former Indian World Cup winning skipper and all-rounder was the second and last Indian bowler to have registered one for himself when he took three for against Sri Lanka at Calcutta (now Kolkata). The paciest bowlers of West Indies modern era Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach have secured one hat-trick each to make the count two for the Caribbean.</p>
