South Africa’s middle-order batsman Temba Bavuma tied the knot with his fiancée Phila Lobi last weekend in a private ceremony at the picturesque Franschhoek in South Africa’s Western Cape province. The 28-year-old diminutive batsman’s wedding was attended by some of the Proteas’ current players, including Kagiso Rabada and Andile Phehlukwayo.

Former Lions and Titans coach Dave Nosworthy was also among the guests and he posted a picture on Twitter showing Bavuma in a white suit and Phila wearing a traditional white dress. Bavuma later posted his wedding invitation to his Instagram followers and thanked everyone involved for making it a special occasion. The right-hand batsman has played 31 Tests and 2 ODIs for South Africa and has two international hundreds – one each in either format. He averages 33.81 in the longest format and 80.50 in the 50-over format.

“Thank you to all that were a part of our day and made it special as it was,” Bavuma wrote in his post of thanksgiving, reported Sport24. The invitation of his marriage ceremony had read: “Welcome to our enchanted fairytale.”

Bavuma eyeing de Villiers’ vacant berth

Bavuma, who played his last ODI in October 2017, said a few months ago that he wanted to don the mantle of AB de Villiers who quit cricket a few months ago and earn a berth in his country’s World Cup squad for the next year’s quadrennial tournament in England.

According to a report in South Africa’s The Citizen in June, Bavuma decided to return to Johannesburg-based Highveld Lions. While many thought it was a move made to better his chances for making a place in the ODI team for the next WC, it was revealed by the cricketer himself that he did so because of his “bossy” fiancée who stays in Johannesburg.

“Life happened. We decided to get married and she resides in Johannesburg. It was going to be difficult for me to keep playing in Cape Town, so I’m back in Gauteng. There’s no bad blood between the Cape Cobras or I,” Bavuma was quoted as saying by the publication.
