Manchester Originals skipper Jos Buttler played an excellent knock and was one of the chief performers in his team’s victory over the Southern Brave in the group stage match of the 2022 The Hundred competition played on August 18 (Thursday). The Originals were a better side as compared to Brave in all three departments of the game as they completed an easy victory over a meek-looking Brave’s side.

Talking about the match, the Originals were given an excellent start by their star openers Buttler and Philip Salt. The duo stitched a 50+ run opening partnership and that too in quick time. Even after Salt got out, Buttler continued his onslaught as the English batter completed his fifty in no time.

The Brave’s bowlers got some success as they also managed to scalp Buttler and Wayne Madsen, but the real damage was done by West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell, who smashed an unbeaten 64 off 23 balls including six fours and five maximums with the Originals finishing on a big score of 188 runs in their allotted 100 deliveries. For Brave, Michael Hogan and Jake Lintott were the successful bowlers, but most of them received a thrashing from the Originals batters.

Chasing a big total, Southern Brave crumbled under pressure

Chasing a big total of 189 runs, several Southern Brave batters got good starts as their prominent openers Quinton de Kock and skipper James Vince played decently during the field restrictions. However, some spirited bowling performances from the Originals meant that the opening partnership was broken.

The bowling team then managed to scalp a few more wickets quickly including some vital wickets of Marcus Stoinis. Alex Davies and Tim David. George Garton and Ross Whiteley tried to revive their team’s innings, but it was a little too late.

For Originals, Sean Abbott, Matthew Parkinson, Tristan Stubbs, Tom Hartley, Russell, and Paul Walter gave contributions with the ball after scalping important wickets for their team. The Originals’ star all-rounder Andre Russell was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent knock.
