When the term Hundred was first coined and its guidelines were revealed, there were plenty of doubts if the format would succeed. However, in just three years, it has gained a tremendous number of followers as fans across the globe have found it unique, interesting, and at times ruthless. So much so, that the IPL franchise owners are now interested in investing in it and making it even more popular.
The tournament first kicked off in 2021 in which Southern Brave emerged as champions. The James Vince-led side was consistent throughout the season and defeated Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs on the night of the finals to become the inaugural champions. Captain Vince led by example as he hit the most runs for the Braves while Jake Lintott was impactful with the ball.
In 2022, all the teams had a better idea of what to do and how to go about business. The defending champions found themselves in a tight spot as they finished seventh on the table. Trent Rockets meanwhile finished as the league leaders and eventually went on to win the title by beating Manchester Originals by two wickets. Veteran all-rounder Samit Patel picked up most wickets for them but the batters, particularly Dawid Malan, who was key.
The 2023 edition of the tournament saw Oval Invincibles beat Manchester Originals in the final. Oval have qualified for the finals in the 2024 edition as well, where they will face the inaugural champions Southern Brave.
