Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has come up with a suggestion for the Indian cricket team. The destructive batsman believes that adding the likes of Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh in the Indian middle order will not only bolster it but make them unbeatable. Sehwag supported the selection of his once teammates while speaking to AajTak and the news was revealed on Twitter.
Background:
There were a lot of doubts over the selection of the senior players before the ongoing Sri Lanka tour. While Mahendra Singh Dhoni made it to the ODI squad successfully, both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina saw their names out of the team. Reports suggest that the left handed duo failed the yo-yo test during the evaluation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and that was the main reason behind their omission.
However, chief selector MSK Prasad mentioned that Yuvraj Singh has been rested for the ODI series and not dropped. Prasad mentioned that the board intends to try out a young bunch of talents and filter out the best in the next 4-5 months with their eyes set on the ICC World Cup in 2019. But it should be mentioned that Yuvraj Singh has not been going through the best of forms right now. He had a poor outing at the Caribbean where struggled with the bat and it was visible to everyone. Yuvraj, who is an outstanding fielder, did not look at his best on the outfield too.
As far as Suresh Raina is concerned, the limited over specialist played his last ODI in the year of 2015. Raina lost his place in the team and have been working tremendously hard since then. From training in Amsterdam to going through rigorous gym schedules, Raina has been determined towards his goal. The batsman had a stellar IPL stint with the bat but his team Gujarat Lions failed to perform as a team. Despite performing brilliantly in the iconic 10th edition of the lucrative league, Raina was not included in the ODI squad which left him emotional.
Considering the failure of Kedar Jadhav and Lokesh Rahul in the first 3 ODIs, Virender Sehwag’s suggestion seems to be legit.
