2019 didn’t start as expected for two of India’s cricketing stars, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. Their misogynist comments on the talk show Koffee with Karan had landed them in a huge controversy. It also led to the BCCI suspending the duo ahead of the ODI series in Australia and were subsequently ruled out the New Zealand tour as well. However, their suspension was lifted later pending inquiry and they got back to the Indian team.
Though the time they spent away from the game was very hard for them. Both the cricketers have admitted of getting carried away and also conceded that they learnt a lot during this phase. The head coach of the team Ravi Shastri also feels that the flamboyant duo needed a rap on their knuckles and the experience will make them a better cricketer going forward.
“Pandya and Rahul needed the rap on their knuckles. They would have learnt a lot from what happened, which is good,” he said while speaking to Mirror Now.
You are bound to make mistakes
Ravi Shastri, however, also spoke in the favour of Pandya and KL Rahul realising that one can make mistakes during their career and will be punished given the stature they hold being the celebrities. “You are bound to make mistakes and you are bound to be punished at times but that’s not the end of the world. Such experiences just help players to come back stronger, harder and wiser,” he further added.
The show featuring the two cricketers was aired on January 6 when both the players were with the team in Australia. But after the fiasco, they were told to return to India. BCCI suspended them pending inquiry but with the Supreme Court not prioritising the case for appointing Ombudsman to take a call on the matter, they lifted it later.
