New Zealand qualified to the final of an ODI World Cup for the first time during the 2015 CWC edition. However, in only their 2nd ODI series after the mega event, a near full-strength New Zealand team struggled against the Zimbabwe team. The 3-match ODI series was led by Zimbabwe who chased down a target of 304 comfortably in the first match of the series.

The home team were rescued by Sikandar Raza’s unbeaten century at No.7 as Zimbabwe finished on 235/6 from 146/8 in the 37th over. As the target was not so big, the New Zealand opening pair of Martin Guptill and Tom Latham didn’t play their shorts straight away. New Zealand needed 65 balls and 63 balls respectively for their first two 50-run milestones in the chase.

Guptill, well-known for this aggressive approach in the limited-overs, reached his fifty in 70 balls and took 46 more to complete his 100. He finished on 116 from 138 balls while Latham got 110 from only 116 deliveries as the target was chased down in 42.2 overs. This chase of 236 was the then the highest in ODIs during a 10-wicket win bettering Sri Lanka’s 230-run chase against England in 2011 CWC Quarters.
