South Africa missed the first four editions of World cup due to a ban on them because of the apartheid. They made their debut in the colorful 1992 World cup and shocked everyone by reaching the semi-finals of the tournament where they were defeated by the rain rule.

They have made the knock out stage in every tournament since then except the 2003 World cup that was held in their backyard in which they were knocked out in group stages, thanks to the rain rule, again. But Since then, they have been pretty consistent in getting into the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the tournament in 2007, 2011 and 2015. They won their first knock out game, winning the QFs against Sri Lanka, but New Zealand defeated them in the SFs to knock them out of the tournament.
